Who are we?
The Center for Social and Economic Strategies (CSIS) is an independent research organization created to change the economic debate in Bulgaria.1 We believe economics is not an abstract science for corporate reports, but the real foundation of every Bulgarian citizen’s quality of life, income, and security. We believe pluralism is needed in the public and academic debate on key issues for Bulgarian society, such as fiscal and monetary policy, incomes, inflation, the labor market, artificial intelligence, human capital, demography, etc. Our team brings together proven academic minds and experienced economists who independently strive to create a space for clear, free, and independent expertise.
In a world of political populism and empty clichés, CSIS speaks the language of numbers, facts, and econometric models. We fill a long-standing gap in our country—the need for a modern, evidence-based progressive alternative to the prevailing neoliberal economic model. Our analyses put people, their work, and their real purchasing power at the center.

Why do we exist?
For the general reader – Because economics should be understandable. We translate complex state budgets, inflation dynamics, and tax laws into accessible language, showing how each decision affects the working Bulgarian’s pocket.
For government, municipalities, and business – Because every reform needs a stable macroeconomic framework. CSIS develops highly professional strategies, sector analyses, and alternative projections that help institutions make workable decisions on labor markets, incomes, and the overall macroeconomic framework.
We do not serve party headquarters or corporate lobbies. We believe Bulgaria can be a modern country with high added value and low inequality. And we provide the expert tools to make that happen.

What is our goal?
To provide objective, independent, and evidence-based economic analysis that turns macroeconomic growth into real gains in income and quality of life for Bulgarian citizens. We are the bridge between rigorous academic research and the practical needs of economic actors—households, firms, and institutions.

Key values?
1. Expert independence. Our analyses are based solely on econometric models and empirical data. We are completely free from party directives, corporate lobbies, or other dependencies.
2. Social justice and convergence. Вярваме, че икономическата ефективност и социалната справедливост трябва да вървят ръка за ръка. We are working to accelerate the catching-up of European incomes, reduce inequalities and overcome the phenomenon of the “working poor”.
3. Human capital at the center. Any state reform, digitalization, or “green transition” only makes sense if they guarantee quality employment, digital labor rights, and security for people and local communities.
